arbalest is the best option for general use, your only other consideration is fashion. Heavy crossboy weights 2 more than the soldier crossbow, but deals much more damage. stats, soldier and light crossbows are not worth investing into. In NG+7 it's worse where you can seriously only use pulley bow for status build up. But adding this crossbow wont fix the problem that majority of Crossbows shoot one bolt that deals laughable damage. But something tells me it is going to be worse than Pulley Crossbow with less damage per shot and will only be a good status crossbow to "balance" the other crossbows. So I hope that the automatic crossbow is going to be good. Making Crossbows stronger would counter people like that. People will use Starlight Shards and use cheats to get infintie of Starlight Shards or use glitching to be able to get infinite amount of fp in combat yet they haven't tried to fix that. But while it is true, it is untrue in PvE where you cannot craft in combat. Some would argue this is okay because you don't use FP and cannot run out on bolts since crafting exist. If I shoot a mage I deal maybe 1/15th of their health while if they hit me they deal 1/4th of mine. But the fact that a mage can throw their Comet over and over faster than I can reload or deal punishable damage back is just atrocious. I use crossbows and bows with all my characters and I've done it since the game launched. Still hoping they buff Crossbows and Bows in DLC. This behavior is similar to the rapid follow-up shot the a player can achieve with a shortbow after jumping and firing it, albeit with stricter requirements. When using a crossbow while galloping on horseback, the player can fire their crossbow while in mid-air without unloading the crossbow as firing it normally would, allowing the player to fire their crossbow a second time immediately upon landing, without needing to reload (the Pulley Crossbow is excluded). While this limits the effective upper range of damage they can do compared to bows, it does allow any build to use crossbows effectively provided they meet the stat requirements. Crossbows do not have stat scaling, only stat requirements for use.In order to manually aim with a crossbow, players must two-hand the weapon. This makes crossbows faster than bows at "quick-draw" shooting, as a player can preload a crossbow and keep it drawn before any enemy encounter, and then the weapon can fire immediately instead of needing to load and draw first. A player can even switch from a melee weapon to a pre-loaded crossbow and fire a shot instantly. A crossbow will retain its drawn state even when switching to another weapon, and it will only lose its draw when the crossbow is unequipped from the player's weapon slots. Unlike bows which needs to perform loading, drawing, and shooting all in a single motion when firing, a crossbow can be loaded and drawn first without shooting.Shoot Bolt 1 shoots the bolt type in the slot on the left in your equipment screen, and Shoot Bolt 2 shoots the type on the right.
